Midwest Archives Conference Annual Meeting is April 17-19. Many of the members present at the meeting expressed interest in attending. The cost is $35 for student members and the hotel is $125 a night, but we can defray the cost of the hotel by rooming together if desired. We will be asking those who wish to go to commit by March 1. If you would like to share a hotel room, we will need to know by March 14.
12/07 Meeting Minutes
Present: Katie Blank, Jodi Hoks, Brook Engebretson, and Amy Cooper Cary
Because of the success of last year’s President’s Day bake sale it was decided the event should be repeated this year. We would like to use Diana’s cookbook of Presidential cookie recipes. Volunteers are needed to bake the cookies and sell the cookies the day of the sale. The cost of ingredients will be reimbursed if desired.
We have yet to decide how funds of the Ericson Scholarship are to be appropriated as well as how we will contribute regularly in order to keep the scholarship available for the years to come.
Money will be reimbursed soon to those attending the SAA Conference in Chicago.
Midwest Archives Conference Annual Meeting is in Louisville, Kentucky this year from April 17-19. We hope many will attend! This conference is a great opportunity for students to meet people and listen to presentations on current topics in archives. Louisville is only about 6 and ½ hours away—we will organize a car pool. Also, the student rate is reasonable. Mark your calendars!
We are looking for ideas of facilities we could tour as a group. The Black Holocaust Museum is a possibility.
We would like to have one more Brown Bag Lunch this year. So far, they have been a great success. One possibility discussed is working with a guest speaker for Amy’s seminar class.
We discussed the idea of a resume workshop to be held before the end of the semester, time and interest permitting.

Overview of SAA: We had a good time and did really well at SAA.
There were many onsite and DE students attending and it was really nice to see each other in person.
As a group we presented two posters and Katie Blank presented an individual poster.
Another highlight was that a recent graduate of our program, Andrea Buchner presented a research paper in the student paper presentation section. She did an excellent job!
SOIS had a booth at the conference which members of our group stood at. Many people were interested in the Certificate of Archival Studies (for those already with an MLIS or MA but want to focus on archives.
Kringle Fundraiser: We are hoping to get this going pretty soon. Unfortunately only onsite students can participate in this because it involves the delivery of perishable food. More details to follow later.
Web site and Blog update: Our new webmaster is Stephanie Giordano. She is a DE student in Chicago. Besides updating the website she took the initiative to create a blog for us. Once this is up this will be a great way for all of us (onsite and DE) to post things and discuss. Thanks for your hard work Stephanie!
Our address is www.sois.uwm.edu/saa. The site will be updated soon!
Archives and Ethics Conference Nov. 30th!!!! There is a great conference that is happening on campus on November 30th (it’s a Friday). Three well known and respected people in the archives world are coming to UWM. Verne Harris, Menzi Behrnd-Klodt, and David Wallace will be speaking at the conference.
As members of the SAA student chapter we can attend for free if we volunteer. This is a really great opportunity! Please email me soon if you can volunteer (kmblank@uwm.edu or just the chapter email at saasc@sois.uwm.edu). For more details see http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/SOIS/cipr/archives_conf.html. DE and onsite are invited to attend. If you need a place to stay in town just let me know and we’ll figure something out.
Fundraising for the Tim Ericson Scholarship: Michelle Caswell was looking into a few options. We were thinking that t-shirts that could be sold from online would be great. This would be an excellent opportunity for DE and onsite students to work together. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions about logos, designs or sites to go through let me know.
For the rest of what happened see the transcript of the chat available on the D2L student lounge - go to chat, SAA meeting area options, September 17. Thanks to Shelly Solberg for typing in my place!

We want to tour the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, WI in late May or early June. An email will be sent out to our members to see what dates work best.
The idea of another fund-raiser before the end of the semester was proposed, but due to busy schedules it was decided against.
Scholarship and educational courses were discussed again.
MAC sponsored a scholarship with an April 1 deadline.
UWM Information and Media Technologies Dept. offers short courses
We are pleased to announce that Andrea Buchner will be presenting a paper, our student chapter will be presenting 2 posters, and Katie Blank will be presenting a poster at the SAA conference in Chicago, Aug. 29-Sept. 2.
