RIM Toolkits

Posted By admin on February 3, 2010

The London Museums Hub has launched an Information Policy Toolkit
and a Records Management Toolkit; both are now freely available on
the Collections Link website. The toolkits were developed by the London
Museums Hub Information and Records Management Project and are designed
to raise museum staff awareness and increase capacity for information
and records management across the London region museums and beyond.

The Information Policy Toolkit introduces the benefits of managing
museum information at a strategic level and gives practical advice on
how to develop an information policy that fits your museum. Using real
life examples, the toolkit explains how to conduct an information audit,
how to interpret the audit data and how to create an organisational
‘information map’ which can then be used to inform your information
policy.

The Records Management Toolkit comprises two modules. The Tools and
Guidance Module outlines the common components of a records management
programme and offers sample policies and procedures that can be used to
develop tailored documents to fit your museum. The Training Module
includes a training plan, a workshop presentation and notes that you can
manipulate to fit your own training needs. Together the modules allow
you to start managing the records in your museum as a corporate asset.=20

In the Scottish Archive Study Abroad Program

Explore Archives in Scotland!

Join us in Edinburgh, one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, as we learn about archives in Scotland. The course, “In the Scottish Archive” will provide a rich opportunity to learn about archival work in the United Kingdom, giving archives students an international perspective on appraisal, arrangement and description, preservation and other archival issues.  Students will meet Scottish colleagues and experience repositories “behind the scenes.” This three-credit class, which counts towards the Archival Studies Concentration, will meet July 24 – August 7, 2010.  Students will be based at Dalkeith House, located on a historic country estate five miles outside of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland.

Course will be taught by UWM Archivist & Instructor Ellen Engseth, assisted by SOIS Special Librarian Katie Blank, and administered in conjunction with the UWM Center for International Education.

Please note that L&I SCI 650 : Introduction to Modern Archives Administration or consent of the instructor is a prerequisite.
