The software is a Web-based game and developed by a semester-based team of students at the Technical University of Upper Austria. The software will be deployed as a basis tool for mastery of incrementation of all numbers 1 - 10 in early Mathematics education. This tool represents the designed activity for the treatment group to develop the intended skill. 3.6.9.  Du Plessis, J.C. (2008). Flexitutor for the Web. This software is based on the PC standalone product. It is developed by a semester-based team of graduate students at the Technical University of Upper Austria. The software is to be deployed on the openlanguages.net environment.

Open learning development for foreign language learning at www.openlanguages.net – The site is dedicated to learning a less commonly-taught language via the Web as an open non-credit asynchronous course. The site has between five and six thousand visits per month, and has been recognized by several major South African newspapers. Many top South African performers have donated their songs to augment the offering. (Exhibited on the Web, publically available, open access). Languages currently under development: Afrikaans, Korean.

A design to teach automation of incrementation beyond counting to expand Math capabilities in young learners. 4.2.1.1.          Study Abroad: South Africa. In collaboration with the Study Abroad Office Dr. J.J. Britz and I co-hosted the first ever SOIS Study Abroad group to South Africa for the (i) Winterim 2005 (3 credits) . The program was repeated in the (ii) Winterim of 2007 with 6 students, (iii) Winterim 2008 with 6 students, (iv) Winterim10 with 6 students, (v) Winterim11 with 8 students.

4.2.2. Organizing colloquia, institutes, workshops, or other programs.

4.2.2.1.          BA in Global Studies: Communications – Collaborating with the Center for International Education to integrate SOIS courses into this track.

4.2.2.2.          Digital Archiving Explorations – I visited with the digital archiving programs at the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Ancestry.com and IArchives to understand the current methods used in the field to archive and digitize content.

4.2.2.3.          SOIS-College of Health Sciences Collaboration. On the SOIS team to work out collaboration between Health Sciences and Information Studies. 2006

4.2.2.4.          SOIS Delegation to SLIS-Madison. Participated in the collaboration talks with the SLIS program at UW-Madison.

4.3.   Other Teaching Activities (not covered elsewhere, but deemed significant)

4.3.1. Did culture training for the US Navy for a group being deployed to the Africa command (2008).

4.3.2. Initiated the first ever study abroad class from SOIS.

4.3.3. Implemented the first podcasting components as part of teaching at SOIS.

4.3.4. Introduced the first Service Learning course in SOIS. This has meant some extra work and time spent with nonprofits in the community to ensure the success of this program. The results have been very satisfying. Numerous multimedia products (including websites, movies, presentations, and instructional software) have been developed for the following institutions: St. Anne Center, SER-Jobs for Progress, The Dominican Center, YMCA, the Indo-Chinese Center, Journey House, and Enrichment Opportunities.
